Ewen's Running Diary - 1982

This page is my running diary from 1982, the year I turned 25. For the first 5 months I wasn't running while I completed a training course in Sydney. I worked briefly in Sydney then moved to Canberra in July. I resumed running on 4 September.

My best race during 1982 was the Weston Creek 7.25k Fun Run held in November which I ran in 30:45 (4:14/km).

nil My running diary for 1982 commences at the end of August/start of September. My goal was to have running as a lifelong activity, hence the very conservative progression and low volume. I was no longer a marathoner! I wanted to improve at shorter distances. My rapid advancement to marathon running in 1981 was the underlying reason for the knee injury and my temporary retirement from running.

2 Canberra - Started running again. Short run in Mawson, slow and easy.

Week 36 5k - Back running! 5k last 4 weeks. Weight 76.0kg.

nil Throughout September I ran 4 days per week, and didn't run on the weekends. All runs were done after work and the distance gradually increased until I was up to 10 kilometres for a 'long' run.

10 10.00am. Race: Belconnen Community 8k Fun Run - 39:53 (4:59/km). Starting on the road then a lap of Lake Ginninderra. Certificate signed by Bill Hayden, M.P. Leader of the Australian Labor Party. Much better than expected!
